{AD-Invite} Well what a feast we had on Saturday {AD-Invite} Well what a feast we had on Saturday evening at @bunchofgrapescf37 in Pontypridd. Having grown up visiting the pub, I've loved seeing how it has evolved since going there for Sunday lunch when I was a kid, to what it is now. I'm happy enough just popping in for a pint of the 11 craft beers on draft and keg by the fire with the dog, but if you do fancy a real treat, then you have to head into the restaurant for a good feeding. We last visited the Bunch for food just before Xmas last year, but with restrictions well and truly in full swing, they quite rightly were running with a limited menu. Not that we didn't find something delish on the menu, mind. The restaurant is running at full capacity now & I loved some of the new items on the menu, from slow cooked cured meats and my fav... all the pickles & fermented & ferments. With a pretty stocked menu of starters, sandwiches/burgers, mains, dessert & sides, we were spoiled for choice. Whilst we waited, was bread obvs. In house baked bread, served with fermented seaweed butter. Thickly sliced crusty cob with a umami packed sliths of butter. To drink, I went for a pint from my favourite Bristol brewer @lefthandedgiant #RIPSmallBarCardiff For starters I was swaying towards the cockles, leeks and pancetta again, but I had that on our last visit. It's been a favourite on the menu for some time I've heard, but I opted for: braised shoulder of lamb ravioli, lemon verbena & garlic jus, with fermented cherry tomato salsa. Two neatly packed parcels of lamb, with a fragrant herby jus. Llio opting for the pan fried salt cod, wild mushrooms & samphire, pickled onions and crispy fish skin.  Not that I didn't like the ravioli, but I preferred the fish starter to mine. The thing I was most excited about on the menu, happened on the sides funnily enough of all places. A plate of 5 ferments & kimchi. I love a bit of funk and they went well with both mains, although I'd happyily eat a plate with some bread and butter. I was fancying something meaty for mains & I do love a bit of salt beef. Seeing that it came with horseradish mash, frickles, dill salsa verde & mustard aioli, I was torn again. 1/2

This was probably my favourite beer coming from th This was probably my favourite beer coming from the @mikkellerbaghaven series The Art of Decadence - Blend 4 🍷 A Danish Wild Ale with red vineyard peaches, cherries, grapes, vanilla beans and noyaux aged between 12-18 months in Oak barrels. It comes in at 7% abv with loads of fruit but not too sour, compared to the Spontans from @mikkellerbeer . I could neck (and will) the whole bottle, where I usually struggle on anything more than 2/3 of a pint of a sour beer.

A generous dollop, slathered over thick sourdough ( @alexgoochbaker malted loaf here) eggs done how you like, but the yolk has to be runny. I'm not the best at poached, so I usually go for fried and some chives on top. I didn't go shopping for ingredients for the salsa Verde yesterday, so tried to make do with what I had lying around instead and didn't have any fresh parsley. Salsa Verde recipe (what I had to hand) Ingredients ☆ Small bunch of fresh mint ☆ Small bunch of rocket ☆ Small bunch of fresh corriander (use parsley if you have it) ☆ 3 teaspoon of dried mixed herbs (mine included parsley, marjoram, oregano, basil) ☆ 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar ☆ 2 teaspoons dijon mustard ☆ 4 green pitted olives ☆ 3 teaspoons capers ☆ 1 fresh red chilli or flakes for desired spice level ☆ 1 clove of garlic ☆ A good few glugs of olive oil. I used @iamginodacampo x @asda extra virgin ☆ Black pepper and sea salt to taste but may not need the salt with the olives and capers, depending on brand Instructions 1. Throw everything in a blender to combine. 2. Add more olive oil if too thick 3. Add more seasoning or proportions to taste

Swinging Tiki Sour Double IPA from @browarstumostow at 7.5% abv I had it in a previous @mikkellerbeerclub box and you can still pick them up on their webshop. Cancelled my subscription last month after over 2 years, which I was a bit emosh about, but price has steadily crept up since they ditched the cheaper subscription box and the extra charges since brexit makes it hard to justify £85 for 8-10 beers, no matter how good they are. Not much left to be fair, as I've been putting it everything from breakfast eggs to supper. Have you seen the latest @honestburgers  collab w Have you seen the latest @honestburgers  collab with Cardiff favourite @brotherthaiuk ? {AD - pr invite} Honest Burger have teamed up with everyone's favourite Cardiff Thai Streetfood vendor @brotherthaiuk They've swapped out the usual beef, for a crispy wedge and I mean absolute wedge of chicken thigh I had in my bun, with thick cut Thai pickled cucumber, a sweet, sticky and mu ping glaze, sriracha mayo, lime leaf, Brother Thai slaw and red chillis. My chicken was so big, I had to fold it up to stuff my in my Chops. The burger comes with their lovely crisped to perfection fries, tossed in rosemary. We managed to get their elusive beef and bacon gravy for dunking too, which I was well happy about, as Cardiffians must have been necking it by the pint in the past, as they've been sold out my last two visits. A bowl of slaw, to cleanse the tongue receptors between bites of the chicken burg and the side of buffalo wings, with lashings of Frank's red hot sauce and herby ranch dressing, topped with shoestring fries. The sauces were lush for mopping up with thr fries too. Derek, approved of the fries and had a lipsmaking time with a cheeky few dunks of gravy, to stop him barking. Situated next door to arguably the best burgers in London with @bleeckerburger You've got the ultimate market 2 courser. You choose your size from two standard or large, pick your base fruit, which then gets topped in crumble. I went for a standard size with rhubarb layer of fruit. Youcan upgrade with a couple of other options for a small extra charge and I opted for vanilla custard and a freshly piped pink meringue, which is torched in front of you. Finally there's a choice of some complimentary toppings such as nuts, meringue pieces and roses. Here I went for the meringue and rose speckles. It was everything you want in a crumble, with seasoned fruit, crunchy crumble then a thick custard perfumed with vanilla. AD | have you ever wanted to take a rock star alon AD | have you ever wanted to take a rock star along with you to a party? Well now's your chance with the latest release from @snowdoniacheese with Rock Star. A vintage Welsh Cheddar aged in slate caves, till just right to eat. This stuff is proper rich and creamy and coats your mouth like a thick clotted cream, leaving a lingering savoury taste. This pairs very well with Snowdonias range of chutneys too, including the Rhubarb and Gin or the Fig and apple, which I tried it with earlier, on top of some buttermilk biscuits from Millers. I think this makes an excellent addition to the @snowdonia range especially when you're fancying a strong cheddar, but don't want to blow your head off with the Black Bomber (if that's ever possible).
Popped to the newly opened @kindle_cardiff today. Popped to the newly opened @kindle_cardiff today. It's been a long time coming so nice to see the place finally open. I used to work across the road and my desk used to overlook the Wardens House and left there 2 years ago. I've not been to Nook in Canton, but it's a similar vibe (same people behind it) with small sharing plates and natural wines. I liked the outdoor area here though just at the entrance of Sophia Gardens, with a working veg and herb garden, being used by the kitchen. We didn't go as wild as we normally would, as we're in London all weekend for Meatopia. What we ordered: - Flat bread with burnt aubergine butter (least fav dish) - Crispy potatoes with confit egg - Artichoke carrot chicken - Lamb ribs galbi (fav dish!) - Quail, champ with gravy - Oatcake, roast apple and rosemary - Cannoli, chocolate and custard. I enjoyed what we did have, although wasn't overly keen on the flatbread. The ribs were lush and I did enjoy the quail, which was a bit like a posh KFC with the fried bird, mash and gravy. Not forgetting the crispy balls of potato, soaked in confit egg. Proper comfort dish those. Was a bit disappointed with the size on the Oatcake dessert, which was £7 for one bite. All in all the food was really good. The food is fresh and seasonal, so expect it to change regularly. This wouldn't be a place to just call in for lunch and definitely a treat, due to the price and amount you get for that. There's a white, red or rose wine by the glass from £6.50, beer or IPA by the glass with half at £2.75 pints at £5.50 Theres 4 cocktails on the menu too, so something for eveyone and can see the list growing, as it was opening day. Price wise again for the cocktails were the most expensive I've seen in town, with the cheapest being £12 for an old fashioned or a prosecco with chambord and £15 for the rum or a gin cocktail. I think it's the natural wines, where they will do well though.
AD | We had a lush few days staying at @25chapelst AD | We had a lush few days staying at @25chapelst a lush cottage, which is nestled in the centre of Conwy. Just one street away from the main hight Street and a stones throw away from the seafront, it makes the perfect location for a visit to the North Wales coast. With a fast WiFi connection, I was able work from the cottage during the day, eat fish and chips by the sea for lunch, then grab an ice cream and go for some scenic stroles in the evening. The cottage has 3 double bedrooms, with a spacious attic bedroom, where you could even see the castle from the skylight. There was a small Central Courtyard, which could be used for some alfresco dinning and would be nice in the winter if there was a firepit to keep warm. With a few pubs within a minutes walk, cafes, restaurants and a chocolate shop, which sadly we didn't manage to catch. We'd visited Conwy once before for the annual good festival, but pass quite often on our regular trips to Anglesey, which is about an hour away and about the same to Chester to the west. You can book @25chapelst on airbnb, with prices varying on time and length of stay. We'd definitely look to book the next time we want to stay in and around Conwy.
This Lamb bagine from @lahmacuncardiff might just This Lamb bagine from @lahmacuncardiff might just be my new favourite dish at @riversiderealfood Thought we'd cycle over to sweat out last nights alcohol and saw the stall, which was a new one on me. They do sourdough Arabic flatbreads, with a choice of lamb, cheese and zataar or mushroom shwarma and all pirced at £5. I opted for some chipotle ketchup and garlic sauce on the side, 50p each, but definitely worth it for dunking. The lahmacun dough seemed spiced too, with a an orange tinge, the meat was soft, juicy and fragrant and loved the tang of pickles and fresh herbs on top. A nice squidge of lemon juice added another bit of freshness to the dish. They aren't that big, so you could (or I could at least) manage two, but I for £5 I think it's a good deal to be fair and they pack a lot of flavour into the dish. Deffo be coming back for more of these.

Here's The Del Piero, a sugared brioche doughnut, Smoked pork shoulder, @duchycharcuterie nduja chilli jam, pork crackling up first. Fresh off the smoker, Smoked shoulder, pickles Smoked garlic and lemon mayo. Also a box of their epic slaw of hispi cabbage, green apple, fennel, sauerkraut, vinegar dressing, gorgonzola and walnuts. We sat down on the curb opposite, as it's takeaway only, but it wouldn't have lasted long if we'd walked somewhere to dig in. We'd already booked in for tea in a few hours, or I would have had a few other bits off the menu. What we did have however was delicious. Tender, smokey meat, freshly made buns and paired beautifully with accompanying sauces and pickles. I'm not thr biggets of salad fans, but the slaw was something else 😍 Can't wait to see From the ashes have up their sleeve for their dish of the day at Meatopia in a few weeks.

Low lighting and a terrible camera phone, but we both loved our first visit to @koreandinnerparty in @carnabylondon food court. Not strictly Korean, but a nice fusion of stuff I love to eat. Loads of nibbles, bigger plates and some really good cocktails to wash them down with. We had: ☆ Corn dogs - cheesy coated hotdogs with ketchup and mustard ☆ Bacon mochi - Caramelised bacon wrapped rice cakes, gochujang caramel and spring onion ☆ Kimchi pancake - onion and kimchi pancake with oyster mayo (we even attempted these when we got home 👌) ☆ Beef tartare - bavette, crispy seaweed with giant rice Crackers ☆ Chikin - fried chicken nuggets, garlic cream, parmesan and rice sticks ☆ Slow cooked 48 hour short ribs - samjang, chilli relish, Asian slaw and homemade wheat wrappers ☆ White kimchi - Chinese cabbage pickle, wakame, carrots and apple dressing A little bit of me this meal. Perfect beer food, although I was sipping cocktails, which were equally as creative including the Yakult Royal with champagne, yogurt soju and yakult foam. Not that I didn't like anything, but stand outs for me were the bacon mochi and the beef rib. Some the best beef I've tasted and paired with the slaw and sauces stuffed in wraps, just yum 😍

I've been fancying a pair of retro looking Asics G I've been fancying a pair of retro looking Asics Gel Lyte iii for a while now, but just waiting for the right colourway and then I saw these in Ume, as part of the Kadomatsu collection. Kadomatsu decorations can be seen throughout Japan around the New Year. It is beleived that they help to bring happiness into the home on New Year's Day. The decorations consist of matsu (pine), take (bamboo) and ume (plum blossoms). Even though I've been eying up a pair for a while, I didn't realise they came with a split tongue i.e a slit down the front and no standard tongue. Takes some getting used to, but they slide on like a glove now. @asics
Did I mention we had brunch at @julietsqualityfood Did I mention we had brunch at @julietsqualityfood on the weekend? We swapped over brunch options from our visit to Milk the day before, with me going for the loaded breakfast bagel and @llioangharad having the seafood option. I say breakfast bagel, but this ain't no average bagel at Juliets. Crispy Hot Smoked Pork Neck Pastrami stuffed in Montreal Style Everything Bagel, Preserved Broad Bean Piccalilli & a Set Custard of Cackleberry Farm Eggs & Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese, Boom!! The seafood option here came I the form of a Spicy Shrimp Patty Bun, pickled onion, Shredded Bibb & Cumari Pepper 1000 Island. Both plates equally as delicious and something totally different to anything I've had anywhere. Quite liking a seafood option other than smoker salmon on menus too. I could get used to this. Llio said that's the quietest 30 seconds she's ever seen me, whilst I went to my happy place and absolutely smashed every last morsel. Super crispy pork pastrami, thick slab of the richest of eggy custard (soz about the lighting) and strong poacher cheese. Seeing as they import the spicy lamb Merquez sausages from Paris, I was never not going to order that on the side. Oh and that little plate or waffles 🧇 about that. Sourdough bread end waffle, roasted peaches, whipped lemon posset, toasted almond milk caramel (yu-um!!) and lavender. Well it was just as good if not better than it reads. Light, fluffy pancake, sweet peaches, creamy posset and crack like caramel I could lap up with a giant laddle. A 5 minute walk from Tooting Broadway underground. Make sure you take a trek over for a cocktail at Tooting market after your brunch at Juliets.
